The VS1010 Developer Board is an application development board for VS1010. It features all necessary hardware for writing and testing software on VS1010.

The board has, despite its small size lots of features and connectors, including headphone, line-in, line out, MicroSD, 2xUSB, PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 mouse, and composite video out (provided by VS23S010).

The board is powered from the USB bus. Serial port is typically used as a debugger interface and for loading code to VS1010.

VS1010 USB to UART adapter is a tiny demonstration board which shows how the VS1010 can be used as a 3.3V CMOS voltage level USB-to-serial adapter. In this operating mode, the VS1010 functions as a USB standard communications class device, offering UART input and output at 115200 bps and other standard baudrates. No custom drivers are needed in the host PC or device.

Using standard USB communications class protocol allows the device to operate with drivers that are included in the operating system. This is especially convenient with operating systems that require secure code, such as all modern phone and tablet operating systems, where using custom USB drivers is not feasible.

Windows 10, Mac OS, Linux and Android operating systems are supported out of the box. Earlier Windows operating systems such as Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7 and 8 require a driver INF file to use Windows standard USBSER.SYS driver.

The VS1010 ROM contains fixed software that uses the USB serial port in 115200 bps baudrate. Other baudrates are also supported with a program loaded from the SPI FLASH (included). With custom firmware in the SPI FLASH, you can change the USB vendor and product IDs and add other custom operations.

The 115200 bps profile allows communications with VLSI VS1010 and VS1005 Developer Boards, for example.

The board contains two pins for DC output. One of the pins is connected directly to the 5-Volt USB voltage. The other pin is driven by VS1010 integrated voltage regulator, providing a fixed DC output voltage. By default this is 3.3 Volts, but it can be changed by a custom firmware. The regulator can drive a 50...100mA load.

VS1010 Miniature USB Headphone DAC is a tiny demonstration board which shows how the VS1010 can be used as a USB DAC and headphone driver. In this operating mode, the VS1010 functions as a USB standard audio class device. No custom drivers are needed in the host PC or device.

The VS1010 AudioBook is an example design for VS1010 optimized for implementing e.g. audiobooks and tour guides. It has a 2 MiB SPI Flash memory for firmware and a MicroSD card connector for audiobook data.

The board includes two USB connectors, only one can be used at a time: USB-C for connecting as a device to a host PC, and USB-A for reading content from memory sticks (software support for USB-A not yet available). Content can also be read either from a microSD card, or from a 128-MByte SPI Flash memory installed to the board. Audio can be output either through the headphone connector, or through a D-class amplifier to a speaker. A small 0.49" OLED can be used to show status. If required, the display can be replaced by a larger one. Six buttons, or six capacitive touch keys can be used for user input. A UART debug interface is provided.

The board is powered by a LiPo battery (not included) which will be charged automatically when the device is connected to a USB power source.

The software has a fast user interface when connected to a display device that can show a few lines of text. The demonstration uses the UART for menu browsing. The firmware is free-to-use and provided with full source code.
